How Does CS:GO Betting Work?
CS:GO betting is pretty straight forward and it will be explained in this article more thoroughly. The first thing that you should know about CS:GO betting is that you are not only betting on one of two teams. There are multiple types of bets and you should know all the facts before making any decision. You should find the balance between the odds of the best cs:go betting sites give you and the risk you are willing to take.
Just like in sports, the advantage of one team over the other is expressed in the odds. Decimal odds are easiest to understand and are becoming the most popular as well. The calculation for decimal odds is
Your bet x Odds = Payout.
For example, if you place 10$ on a bet with the odds of 2.5, you can win 25$ (it includes your original 10$).
Types Of CS:GO Betting
CS:GO has a lot of ways to place your bet on. Here are some types and their explanation:
Match Odds (sometimes called Money-Line betting)
This is a classic bet. You are wagering your money on which team will win the whole match. For example, Team A is going to beat Team B. The team wins a round if they eliminate every member of the opposing team or they complete a map objective. In order to win a game, they have to win 16 rounds out of a possible 30. You are betting on the team you think would reach 16 rounds first. Also, be careful about a format. Mostly they are best-of-1, best-of-2, best-of-3, and best-of-5 (their acronyms are BO1, BO2, BO3, and BO5).
Here are some examples of current match odds from our CS:GO betting odds comparison tool:

|1.80 / 1.90||1.84 / 1.92||1.96 / 1.86|

|1.30 / 3.20||1.39 / 2.89||1.34 / 3.34|

Instead of betting whether Team A is going to win, you can bet that Team A is going to win with a handicap. The easiest way to explain handicap is through example. If the handicap is +4,5 your team starts a match with 0-4,5 and they have to win at least 16-10 so it would count as they won 16-14,5. There is also a reverse handicap, you can bet on other team and if the match finishes 16-11 or anything above, you won. This option makes some heavily favourited matchups a lot more interesting.
Betting On Totals
In this betting type, you can bet on a specific stat in the game, such as total maps played, total kills, total points, or total rounds. For example, if bookmaker sets a certain value for total kills, you can bet if that stat will go over or under the amount that they have set.
Proposition Bets (Prop Bets)
This betting option means that you can bet on smaller things. For example: which team will get first blood, how many pauses will be in a certain match, who is going to win a knife round and so on. These bets are risky, you have a 50%-50% chance of winning and the odds are mostly set @ 1,90.
This means that you can bet on the overall outcome of CS:GO tournaments. So, if you think that some team is dominating, you can place a bet that they are going to win a tournament or finish in top 3, even before that tournament starts.
These are fun bets that depend from tournament to tournament. For example, if map Mirage will be played on day one.
A live bet can be placed only when a match starts. Also, this type of betting is getting more and more popular. Live betting also requires a lot of knowledge to predict what might happen in a short time. Odds in live betting are also updated constantly during the match.
You are placing a bet on a team that is going to win a pistol round. Only 1st and 16th round are counted as pistol rounds.
Those are the most popular types of bets in CS:GO. You might find more of them depending on a bookmaker that you are using and depending on what kind of tournament it is. Majors are the biggest tournaments in CS:GO and they have the best coverage. They offer an outstanding prize pool and feature the best teams from all over the world. Minors are less popular, offer a smaller prize pool, and they are not covered that well. However, some bookmakers like Betway and GG.Bet cover minor tournaments too.
CS:GO Betting Advice
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Don’t except that you will win every bet that you make. There is always a risk. Don’t go all in or bet more than you can afford. Generally, it’s not a good idea to place all your money on a single match. Keep track of your bets. By tracking your bets you can see your errors and you can work on fixing them.
Research the teams.
If you are placing a bet on a team, make sure that you know them really well AND that you know a team that they are playing against. Try to find sites that are keeping track of some important stats, for example, head-to-head matchups. Head-to-Head stats is one of the most important, it basically means how are teams performing against each other. It is also good to know their tournament performance so you can see how consistent they are. This means that it is important to know if some team or a player is in good form or not. Also, a good thing to know is the map pool. Some teams are good in one map, and some are bad in the other. It is also good to know if some team has a replacement, or if they have a new roster. Great website for these stats is HLTV.org.
The best way to research a team is to watch them. Check their playstyles and maps that they prefer. Also, keep an eye on individual players and see how are they contributing to a team. Check comments of other people. Two heads are better than one, as they say. There are a lot of forums or betting previews where people are trying to predict some matches. It’s always good to see what other people think, and they might know something that you do not know. Of course, ignore comments that are clearly biased, and be objective as well.
