Dota 2 MDL Chengdu Major 2019 – Betting Odds & Favorites to Win

Having already seen just how taxing the entire DPC can be on players for two years now, the majority of the big organizations decided to skip the Dota 2 MDL Chengdu Major 2019. Chief among those are the back-to-back TI champions, OG, as well as perennial contenders, PSG.LGD, and Team Secret. Also on a break are the former Team Liquid squad led by Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi, who are set to reveal their new team name in the coming weeks.

With the big and proven names on a break, the chance now presents itself for the 16 teams to secure themselves an early slot at next year’s The International 10, which will be held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Betting Preview & Analysis – Who are the favourites to win Dota 2 Chengdu Major?

Even though the path to the trophy at the MDL Chengdu Major is clearer with the usual suspects absent, a handful of teams still stand out from the rest.

Evil Geniuses and Vici Gaming, in particular, will be expected to at least make it to the Grand Finals based on the strength of their respective rosters alone. The former have been undefeated so far in online matches, and although LANs are a different beast, something tells us that Evil Geniuses’ trio of Abed, RAMZES666, and Arteezy will be just as much of a nightmare to deal with in person at the tournament.

Speaking of trio, much of last year’s Vici Gaming squad remains intact.

As one of two teams to win two Majors last season, Vici Gaming will definitely not settle for anything less than a trophy finish. Look to newcomer Xiong “Pyw” Jiahan to prove that he has what it takes to captain a Dota 2 team at the top level.

Outside of these two Dota 2 teams, another one worth keeping a close eye on at the MDL Chengdu Major are TNC Predator.

Having reshuffled their roster to feature a mix of Filipino and Korean professional Dota 2 players, TNC Predator’s current lineup have already shown a lot of promise in their short time together. They’ve already won ESL One Hamburg 2019 and could very well go on to win the MDL Chengdu Major if left to run amok.

Other Dota 2 Teams to Watch at the MDL Chengdu Major

While bookies put TNC Predator, Evil Geniuses, and Vici Gaming way ahead the rest of the pack, that doesn’t mean the rest of the competition have little to no chance at the title at the MDL Chengdu Major.

One of The International 2019’s breakout players, Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov, continues to prove his worth following his standout performance with Mineski in Shanghai last season with a new-look Alliance roster this season. He was instrumental in helping Alliance win DreamLeague Season 12 and secure a third-place finish at ESL One Hamburg 2019.

Do also watch out for Team Aster and EHOME.

Although unproven as a team, both squads feature some serious talent on their lineups. The former sees the return of fan-favourite Song “Sccc” Chun to a Dota 2 Major. Meanwhile, the latter will try and pick up where they left off last season following a strong mid-season push that could have eventually landed them a spot at The International 2019 if not for an untimely injury for former TI6 champion and offlaner, Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida.

All in all, the MDL Chengdu Major 2019 should be our first real chance to see some of the elite teams of the 2019-20 Dota Pro Circuit in action, and we just can’t wait to see just how well these newly shuffled rosters will do against each other with so much on the line.
