The International 2019 (TI9) – Dates, Teams & Prize Pool

The International 2019 is the biggest Dota 2 event of 2019 and the concluding tournament of the Dota Pro Circuit. 18 teams will compete for making history and winning the most prestigious trophy, the Aegis of Champions.

Where is TI9?

The 9th edition of TI take place at the the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China, which has a capacity of 18,000 seats.

Dates & Schedule – When is TI9 taking place?

The International 2019 will take place between August 15th and August 25th, 2019. There will be a Group Stage between Aug 15 – Aug 18 and the Main Event (knockout-stage) between Aug 20 – Aug 25.

Teams Participating

18 teams will participate in total: 12 teams which are qualifying through Dota Pro Circuit and 6 teams which are coming through Regional Qualifiers taking place in China, Southeast Asia, North America, South America, CIS, and Europe.

The current qualified teams for TI9 are: Team Secret,, Evil Geniuses, Vici Gaming, PSG.LGD, Fnatic, Team Liquid and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Has anyone won the International twice?

No, no team managed to win the International more than once. The closest team to ever done it is Na`Vi, who won The International in 2011 and finished as runner-up in 2012 and 2013. Newbee was also close by winning TI in 2014 and finishing second in 2017.

Who won the International Dota 2 Championships?

Besides Na’Vi and Newbee, who were very close to becoming The International winners twice, other teams who won the event are: iG (2012), [A] (2013), EG (2015), Wings (2016), Liquid (2017) and OG (2018).

The biggest prize money tournament in esports will take place in Fortnite, as Epic Games announced they will held a $100M World Cup in 2019. This event is yet to take place. For the last couple of years Dota 2 held the highest payouts in esports: $25M for The International 2018 and $24M for The International 2017.
